Konbit Ble Wouj (KBW) was established in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. In the midst of the catastrophe, families abroad were concerned about the safety and whereabouts of their loved ones. Through a Facebook page created by a sixteen-year-old Haitian, Jeff Cliford, people began to reconnect with the island, receive the latest news, and renew old acquaintances with friends and classmates. This marked the beginning of the formation of KBW. A group of Archelois (residents of Arcahaie) living overseas felt the need to create Konbit Ble & Wouj in order to effectively assist their hometown. The term “Konbit” refers to a traditional movement where villagers come together to work as one on a community project and achieve results.
The aftermath of the earthquake claimed the lives of many Haitians and plunged the country into a major humanitarian crisis that still awaits solutions. Over a decade later, basic needs such as drinking water, food, shelter, and minimal healthcare support remain inaccessible to the majority of the Haitian people. Living conditions in rural and some urban areas have worsened due to political unrest and social inequality. Despite the good intentions of numerous NGOs and private organizations, many have failed to help due to underestimating the situation or lacking knowledge of the reality on the ground. Konbit Ble & Wouj, as a reputable organization, has chosen to collaborate with other grassroots organizations and established private entities that have a proven track record of success in order to address daily problems and find long-lasting solutions.
The appropriate approach is to assist our fellow countrymen in showcasing their true potential and becoming self-sufficient. As you can imagine, there is a tremendous amount of work to be done, yet there are only a few hands available to embrace the Konbit. We appeal to today’s youth, professionals, good citizens, and trusted organizations to join us on this journey. Identifying urgent needs and delivering essential support is a mission that requires additional help. We maintain constant communication with our Response Team on the island to ensure that every donation directly benefits those in real need. Konbit Ble & Wouj is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and transparency, honesty, and trust are the core values of our mission. Children and other vulnerable members of the population face overwhelming challenges and need assistance. Our strategy prioritizes safeguarding the dignity and integrity of everyone to the best of our ability while providing aid.
I would like to express my gratitude to our Executive Committee for their unwavering commitment and passion in giving back and positively impacting the lives of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Despite limited funds, we refuse to compromise on the quality of assistance we provide, adhering to our motto: quality over quantity. Join the Konbit today and help us restore hope!
